This map demonstrates the various Dutch provinces and their capital city's. The two major provinces: North Holland and South Holland (Noord Holland and Zuid Holland) can be found around the middle of the western sea, south of the frisian islands. Two major areas encompass all of the Netherlands: plains and flood plains. The Netherlands is famous for its flood plains due to both Hollands being inside of that area. That being said the more inland areas tend to flood far less than the more sea-bound areas. Because of that we drop the prefix making it plains instead of flood-plains.
On A World MapThe Netherlands is found in western Europe next to Belgium and Germany. Even for European standards the Netherlands is rather small, being around the third smallest in the continent. If you are not well versed in European geography you could fit about 20 Netherlands into B.C. (41,543 sq km into 944,735 sq km). The most visited area Holland only makes up a fraction of that!
